The Walking Dead

Did you know that people can exhibit signs of physical death for months before they actually die? This means they are literally “the walking dead” until they are healed or die. I learned this little tidbit after my Grandmother transitioned to heaven over a year ago. She’d been transitioning for months but no one recognized it because we didn't know the signs.

Similarly, believers can exhibit signs of pending spiritual death before it occurs. According to II Timothy 3:5, the spiritually dead observe and participate in religious traditions and practices. However, they don’t surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit, cutting themselves off from the power that can change them.

Don’t wait until spiritual death is looming, learn to recognize the signs now:

  1. Lack of faith, increased doubt

  2. Decreased appetite for the Word of God

  3. Overwhelmed with spiritual weakness and temptation

  4. Unstable commitment to Christ

  5. Withdrawn from other belivers

  6. Lack of peace, increased confusion

Perhaps you’re showing signs of spiritual death but don’t know it. Or, maybe you’re already among the spiritually dead. Still, despite your current spiritual health, there is hope. As long as Jesus delays His return, redemption is available.

So, what’s the remedy for spiritual death? As the answer for physical death is resuscitation, so it is for spiritual death. Like a lifeless body receiving breath and stirring again, the Holy Spirit wants to revive you and make you active and vigorous again. So, “…repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins] and return [to God—seek His purpose for your life], so that your sins may be wiped away [blotted out, completely erased], so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord [restoring you like a cool wind on a hot day].” Acts‬ ‭3:19‬
