Happy Thanksgiving!
After Thanksgiving dinner, my mother-in-law asked us to share one thing we’re thankful for. As our family began to share one-by-one, it was hard to choose something to share. And not because I don’t have much to be thankful for, but because I couldn't narrow it down to just one thing.
For example, this week God gave me the opportunity to bless someone in a way I would’ve never imagined.
Superman and I took advantage of the Black Friday sales and bought Sonshine #2 his first “big boy” bicycle. The day the bicycle was delivered, we received two bicycles instead of one! After confirming the error was on the company’s end and not me accidentally purchasing two bicycles, the company thanked me for my honesty and told me to keep the extra bicycle.
After making a surprise delivery to the family of a very deserving toddler, I became emotional. No doubt errors like these happen every day, however, this incident served as a reminder that God will disrupt systems to bless His children. It served as a reminder that we don’t have to be “in the room” to be a recipient of His favor. It served as a reminder that He knows our name. And it’s proof that He’s intentional.
As I’m remembering this while waiting my turn to share, I’m also rocking Sunshine #3 to sleep and can’t help but be thankful that he’s joined our family.
The Bible describes children as “…arrows in the hand of a warrior…” (Psalm 127:4-5), my Sonshines serve as a reminder of the grace I’ve received to be their mother. They serve as a reminder of my strength and accomplishment as a warrior. They serve as a reminder of my assignment: like arrows, children must be carefully shaped and formed, guided with skill and strength, cared for and nurtured so they will fly straight, aimed and given direction, and launched. And once again, this is all proof that He’s intentional.
So, what am I thankful for this Thanksgiving? Since I can’t just name one thing God has done for me, I’ll share who He is to me. I’m thankful for His unchanging character. I’m thankful that He remains the same. I’m thankful that He can be trusted. I’m thankful that He doesn’t get tired of being God.
Happy Thanksgiving y'all! May His sweet, unchanging presence surround you today and always.
